How Laser Therapy Works
The lasers used during a therapeutic chiropractic treatment are composed of special light energy that can deeply penetrate damaged cells. Once the cells in the tendons, ligaments, and muscles are stimulated by the light, they will start healing themselves at a faster rate than they would otherwise. In other words, laser therapy helps reverse the damage that is causing your pain. Needless to say, your discomfort will decrease as well as the treatment goes on.
What’s the Treatment Like?
Most treatments will take about 10 to 15 minutes, although the exact amount of time depends on the size of the area in need of therapy. Depending on your treatment plan, you might undergo therapy about 2 to 3 times every week. Laser therapy causes no pain; in fact, you’ll generally experience little to no sensation at all. Some people have even fallen asleep during the treatment! It usually takes about 1 to 3 treatments before you notice an improvement in your condition. (In severe chronic cases, you may need to undergo 10 to 12 treatments before the benefits become obvious.)
What are the Benefits?
Thanks to laser therapy, we can quickly and directly treat your back pain without having to rely on drugs or surgery. There are no known side effects to using laser therapy for chiropractic purposes. In addition to relieving pain, laser therapy speeds up recovery, restores mobility in your damaged joints, and reduce swelling. We generally recommend laser therapy for chronic pain in the back, neck, knees, or shoulders; if you suffer from one of these conditions, call us for a consultation to determine if laser therapy is right for you.
